Objectives

The objective of the Project is to contribute to social and economic development of the country through job creation and increased foreign exchange earning through increased Japanese tourists arrivals. The Project will improve tourism-related infrastructure and facilities, develop human resources in the tourism sector, and conduct marketing and promotion activities in Japan to attract Japanese tourists.

Scope

The project will consist of following four tourism-related programs: (i) marketing and promotion, (ii) human resource development, (iii) facility and infrastructure development, (iv) community development, and (v) consulting services. The marketing and promotion program targets Japanese market. The human resource development program will focus on development of hotel school facilities and the capacity of Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM) to offer quality tourism-related education and training. The facility and infrastructure development program will aimed as development and improvement of tourist facilities and tourism-related infrastructure in four major tourist destinations such as Sigiriya, Anuradhapura, Negombo and Nuwara Eliya. The community development program expects to bring the benefits of tourism development to the communities in these four locations.
