Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management(SLITHM)
Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management has been established under Tourism Act No. 35 of 2005 to be the successor to the former Ceylon Hotel School established in 1966 and its Provincial Colleges. Apart from the succession the Act has provided wider powers and broader objectives to guide and participate in management of other private and public training centers in the same sector.
Today the SLITHM has emerged as the premier Institute for development of human resources required for Travel, Tourism and hospitality education at all levels in this country. Being the longest standing and best equipped teaching institution in this field, it has the in-house capacity to offer the broadest range of courses with teaching facilities and practical training. It has been one of the best known hospitality schools in the region.
The SLITHM offers a comprehensive package of studies incorporating courses ranging from basic skills to executive and management capacity building. All training courses consist of highly industry-sensitive training packages. The Board of Management that has a hands-on approach to the administration and development of the institute is constantly improving and assessing the modalities and substance of teaching through close interaction with the newly created Academic Affairs Board and the industry. A key element to be introduced in the near future will be new national heritage inputs to the course curricula in cooperation with the Central Cultural Fund.
