An advisory panel consisting of most venerable Maha Sanga in Sri Lanka has been established with the guidance of the Hon. Minister of Tourism with the objective of obtaining views of the most respected Buddhist monks in the country on promoting Sri Lanka as a destination preferred for religious Tourism, cultural tourism and heritage tourism.

Starting from the first meeting of the Maha Sanga Council held on February 22, 2007 many activities have been carried out in accordance with the advice of the panel.
