Tourist Police division is established to prevent, protect and delight the tourists by taking all necessary and possible measures to ensure that Sri Lanka a visitor friendly place, minimizing the negative that are faced by tourists both local and foreign. This division also ensures that Sri Lankans are also protected from negative practices such as use of children for commercial sex, drugs and other undesirable activities.

This rejuvenated Tourist Police division is headed by a Director at the Senior Superintendent level, appointed by the Inspector General Police, under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General. Its Functions include the re-establishment of a network of tourist Police Station or units, at key tourist areas to ensure that all tourists, both local and foreign are able to have hassle free and enjoyable holiday experiences in Sri Lanka.
