Justice B.L.K . Wimalachandra, an old boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy passed out as an Advocate in 1973 and apprenticed under Neville Samarakoon, Queen’s Counsel who later became the Chief Justice of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. 

After he joined the Bar in 1974 he continued to work in the chambers of Justice Neville Samarakoone.  Justice Wimalachadra was appointed as a Magistrate in 1980.  He was promoted as a District Judge in 1980.  In August 1997 he was appointed a Judge of the High Court and served mainly in the Commercial High Court.  During this period he handled a large volume of commercial disputes effectively to the satisfaction of the business community. 
He was elected President of the High Court Judges’ Association in 2003/2004.  On 31.03.2004 he was elevated to the Court of Appeal .He has been a member of the disciplinary tribunal that inquired into complaints against judicial officers.  He is also a visiting lecturer of the Judges’ Institute. Justice Wimalachandra is a member of the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association.
